Bursa Technical University was established as the second public university of Bursa with 6 Faculties, 2 Institutes and 1 Vocational School according to the Council of Ministers decision published in the Official Gazette dated 21.07.2010 and numbered 27648.
The department of sociology was established in 2015 and started education in 2017-2018 academic year. Sociology department offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to a B.A. degree and it maintains strong links with the political science, social work, international relations, economics, history, philosophy and psychology. In our department, there are 4 departments including sociology of institutions, applied sociology, general sociology and methodology, social structure and change. The education language of the department is Turkish.
Sociology is the study of groups and group interactions, societies and social interactions, from small and personal groups to very large groups. Sociologists study all aspects and levels of society. Sociologists working from the micro-level study small groups and individual interactions, while those using macro-level analysis look at trends among and between large groups and societies. Bursa Technical University, Department of Sociology aims to provide high quality education and to follow the approaches of sociology in research activities.
Within the objectives of the sociology department, it is important to ensure that students gain both professional knowledge, skills and necessary experience. At the same time, students are encouraged to conduct scientific research in order to provide an understanding of societal problems through theoretical perspectives of sociology. For this reason, the courses are not only given to students for the basic theoretical subjects of sociological analysis, research methods and related cultural accumulation, but also for students in teaching, research and management positions. Bursa Technical University Sectoral Education Program (BTÜ-SEP) provides a work-based training model that is designed and managed in collaboration with the relevant sector.With this program Sociology students have the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of work that they can work when they graduate by joining this program since the 7th semester.
The Graduates of Sociology Department can work in public and private sector.They have job opportunities in a wide range from ministries of government, civil society organizations, educational institutions, national and international non-governmental organizations, human resources, academic institutions. research companies, advertisement agencies, marketing firms, to international institutions such as the World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, and ILO.
